HAWKS GARDEN TIPS FOR MAY:
Harden off indoor started
seedlings for your garden. Move them outside each morning to a shaded,
sheltered spot. Slowly increase time and light intensity.
Prune out winter damage on
evergreen shrubs.
Apply second application of
HAWKS lawn fertilization program.
Deadhead daffodils and tulips,
do not cut off greens. Check for empty spots and make notes for fall.
Spray for Pine Sawfly larva, or
call HAWKS Landscape Management department.
Set out annuals and vegetables
as weather permits.
Apply liquid broadleaf weed
killer to turf areas.
Check trees and shrubs for
diseases.

May 24 10:00 am Shady Characters - Perennials Discover colorful choices for woodland gardens and those challenging shady corners, from blooming perennials to elegant foliage plants. Learn from an expert shade gardener, and view actual plants at Hawks. Garden walk is included. May 24 1:00 pm Container Gardening II REPEAT of April class due to high demand. Learn how to choose annuals, grasses and even vegetables to create visual “punch” to accent your entryway, patio or garden. You’ll also get tips on how to set up simple ways to irrigate and fertilize. May 31 10:00 am Patio Tropicals The textures and colors of tender tropical plants add drama, glamour and surprise to the summer garden from early summer until frost.
