The Hawks Nursery Co., established in 1875, has been at its current location in Wauwatosa, WI (a suburb of Milwaukee) since 1923.  At the high point of the season, Hawks employs more than 175 people.  Hawks multi-level, state of the art facility includes:

·        11,500 sq. ft. full service Garden Center

·        2,400 S. F. landscape design office

·        Full service vehicle and equipment repair facility

·        Large warehousing and staging area

·        Garden center, maintenance, nursery and landscape construction offices

Hawks provides a fine array of goods and services aimed at the discriminating buyer including:

·        Landscape Design & Construction - Our Landscape Architects and Designers are able to design and direct the installation of landscapes of any complexity. Our construction crews install over four million dollars in landscaping each year.

·        Landscape Maintenance - Our crews are experienced at handling all facets of landscape maintenance including fertilizations, bed care, turf management and technical tree and shrub care.

·        Garden Center - Our retail garden center is able to full-fill the needs of all gardening enthusiasts.  We carry a substantial variety of gardening gifts, tools and over 5,000 varieties of plant material.

·        Retail Landscape Design - This area of the company handles small to medium size landscape planning and installation sales as well as design and sales for our do-it-yourself clientele. 

·        Nursery - Hawks purchases all of its plant material from premier growers through out the country.  We handle over five million dollars worth of plants each year.  The nursery staff receives, maintains and assembles all plant orders for the design/build and retail departments.

Garden Center Manager

  • Supervise assistant managers and special order person
  • Supervise and schedule outside yard sales people
  • Oversee the maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness both inside and outside the garden center
  • Become proficient at all aspects of cash registers and paper work flow
  • Work with owner on choosing and displaying specials and sale items. Work with owner on developing and organizing promotions.
  • Work with assistant managers, owner and accounting to arrive at an annual budget, review regularly and make adjustments in the operation to optimize profit
  • Promote strong customer service and problem resolution

Qualifications :

  • Experience managing a retail operation with at least 10 employees
  • Horticultural knowledge
  • Experience working with computers and diverse paperwork
  • Detail oriented

 

Visual Merchandiser / Special Order Associate   

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Act as a store liaison to assist clients in finding unique products, expand our vendor source files, and assist in retail merchandising
  • Provide a high level of customer service including overseeing/driving special orders sales and assist in Visual Merchandising of store displays
  • Anticipate and resolve customer service issues
  • Learn and communicate product knowledge with staff and customers
  • Assist in keeping the store and stock neat and organized and receive stock and merchandise in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback to management and buyer on customer's reaction to merchandise, while partnering with buyers to drive sales and visual impact

Qualifications :

  • Possess a friendly, approachable and versatile personality and be a resourceful team player. 
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Highly detail oriented with an emphasis on follow-through
  • Background in design a plus with experience in store merchandising
  • Proficient in cash handling and billing procedures. 
  • Flexibility in working store hours that follow our clients' needs while being punctual and reliable is essential

Cashier

Duties will include cash handling, customer assistance, telephone call routing, and general store duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Experience preferred, but will train. Must be at least 16 years of age.

Arborist

Full-time position for a climber in the arborist department. The individual must have the ability to apply standard tree and shrub pruning techniques with minimal or no supervision. Individual will be expected to learn required advanced techniques to prune or remove trees over obstacles and in hot or cold weather. Daily tasks will include working in trees to perform all general tree care (i.e. cabling, bracing, pruning and removals), having full knowledge of how all tree care equipment is used to complete work in the safest way possible (i.e. chainsaws, pole and hand saws, chipper, aerial lift, stump grinder), and effectively participating in all job safety briefings. One must always be aware of all hazards to ensure the work area is kept safe and be able to maintain all climbing gear and tree care equipment in safe working order to ensure safe, efficient and high quality tree care. Individual will also assist in removing debris, chipping brush and cleaning up work site after each job.

 Requirements-

  •  Basic climbing experience and skills

  • Proficient knowledge of knot, rigging and climbing gear

  • Have or obtain valid CDL

  • Follow and abide by all safety rules and policies of Hawks tree care department

  • Ability to complete production work in a timely manner

  • Have or obtain arborist certifications through ISA

  • Must be courteous and friendly to property owners

  • Must be able to follow direction and complete the requests of crew foreman
